Vamos to Arros QD

Prepare to be transported to Spain with the authentic wood fired Spanish paella dishes served at Arros qd. Think open fire station views and great wine pairing. This restaurant screams special occasion.

I began with the Achiote pulled pork which is served on corn bread with pickled red cabbage, this was a winner for me. I also tried the brown crab salad which came with a mustard mayo, this was really flavoursome!

The Atlantic squid served with mojo rojo went down really nicely, I can tell you that after tasting it, I didn’t want to share, but tapas is for sharing so… I did, reluctantly! We also had the beef cheeks in a port wine reduction, these melted in the mouth and were packed full of flavour.

The wood-fired paella dishes give a wow factor when bought to the table, they come with a crusty base and are made to share, so the dishes are huge. Fear not, you will find space to fit it in as they are relatively thinly spread. The dishes are portioned in multiples of 2 and priced per person. I tried both the Paella Valencia (chicken, rabbit and garrofo beans with herbs) and the Black Ink Rice (squid, sugar snap peas and pil pil emulsion). Not a scrap was left.

I finished off with a classic, apple pie. I am a real dessert person, but this missed the mark for me, the brandy soaked prunes on top weren’t to my liking, but the rest was tasty enough and it certainly looked the part.

The staff are very attentive and happy to accommodate any requests. I must admit I am not the biggest wine fan, but their wine sommelier was very knowledgeable. This attention to detail makes all the difference for me.

Would I come back? Absolutely, there are plenty more dishes to try and the Txangurro rice is next on my list, (brown and white crab meat, kimchi foam and seafood stock) drool!
